Hi everyone and welcome back to my channel! In today’s video I would like to share with you four sentences that we use to express our feelings for someone. I’m starting the video in English because I think this topic might be interesting for many. In the second half of the video I will explain the sentences more in detail and I will speak Italian. The first sentence is “ho una cotta per te”. "Ho una cotta per te". In English this means "I have a crush on you". Now, from what I know, anyone can say this sentence in English, it is not really age related. On the other hand, in Italian, there might be an age limit to use this sentence. Because, in my experience, I’ve never heard someone above the age of 15 say this sentence to somebody else. So this is something to bear in mind. “Ho una cotta per te” is an extremely popular sentence in school! The second sentence is “(Tu) Mi piaci”. This means “I like you” and this is the easiest way to express your feelings for someone in Italian. Of course, those feelings are not the strongest in this case, but you have something to work with! Anyone can say this sentence, so no age limit to this one. The third sentence is “Sono innamorato/a di te”. You are sharing your strong feelings for someone, you are in love with this person! This sentence means “I’m in love with you”. You have another option, which is “Mi sono innamorato/a di te” - I fell in love with you / I have fallen in love with you. And you also have a third option! Which is: "Mi sto innamorando di te", which means "I’m falling in love with you". So I'm not there yet, but working on it! The fourth sentence is “Ti amo”, which means “I love you”. And this is the most powerful sentence you can use to express your feelings for someone, so use it carefully. You cannot use it as frequently as you would do in English, you can't say "I love you", "I love this", etc. So in Italian, "ti amo", keep in store for the perfect moment! We are talking about a romantic, passionate love. You would say it to your partner, your husband, your wife, your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your fiancé(e). So, what if we want to express our feelings for a family member o a friend? In that case, we would use "Ti voglio bene". "Ti voglio bene" expresses a different type of love, the love you feel for your mother, your sister or a close friend. So we say "Ti voglio bene" to a family member or a close friend. If you say "ti voglio bene" to someone you like, that might end things with that person, because the other persone might think you are not interested in them. So be careful with these two sentences. Now, if you are not interested in the Italian explanation of these sentences, you can stop watching now! I would like to have a look in detail at the sentences and verbs we can construe from the four sentences we have just seen. "Ho una cotta per te". This sentence can be modified in different ways. We can change the subject and the pronoun "te". You have a crush on me, he has a crush on her, etc. We can also say: I have a crush on you. In Italian we use the expression "prendersi una cotta per qualcuno" (to have a crush on someone). In which we use the reflexive verb "prendersi" (to take on). This is why we use "to be" as the auxiliary verb to conjugate the verb in present perfect and why we agree the past participle with the subject. I like you. Here we can modify the sentence as well. You like her. She likes him. Etc. We use the verb "piacere", so be careful with the structure of the sentence, which become object verb subject. Then we have the verb "innamorarsi" (to fall in love), from which we construe the two sentences: I am in love with you and I have fallen in love with you. "Innamorarsi" is a reflexive verb. This is why we use "to be" as the auxiliary verb to conjugate the verb in present perfect and why we agree the past participle with the subject. I love you. "To love" is a transitive verb, no preposition is needed. "To love someone". I love you. "Volere bene a qualcuno" is an intransitive verbal expression, with preposition "a". I hope you enjoyed this video! Thank you so much for watching. I will see you in my next one. Bye!
