Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel, I hope you are all fine and ready to go over the 'CI' and 'NE' particles and the object pronoun 'LO' together. So, I'm very happy to make this video, because I really like talking about grammar, as you well know, and so today we practice this activity. I recommend that you review the use of 'CI', the use of 'NE' and the use of 'LO' with your grammar book or with the videos and lessons I have done previously, if you don't. you feel too sure about the subject. Otherwise, watch this video and start the business with me! The subscribers of the channel received, a few days ago, a PDF document to work on this lesson. So if you want to have the PDF document to work with me or even to work independently on this topic, you can subscribe to the channel at the second level and then go and download the PDF document of this exercise, but also of all the other exercises and all the other activities that I publish for subscribers. If you want, of course, you don't have to! Let us remember that 'CI' is a pronominal particle that can have many functions. Same thing for 'NE', 'NE' is also a pronominal particle. 'LO' is a direct object pronoun. 'Both' CI 'and NE' and 'LO' can replace entire parts of sentences that have already been said and therefore their function is to avoid repetition. We use 'CI', 'NE' and 'LO' to avoid repetitions in conversation and also in texts, because repetitions weigh down the conversation, weigh down a text. So, this is the text we work on. Let's read it together and then tell me what you notice. Sara confessed to me that she has a crush on Mattia. He waited a long time before telling me he has a crush on Mattia. I didn't expect her to have a crush on Mattia, I had no idea about this situation! I hope that tomorrow he will tell me about the fact that he has a crush on Mattia in more detail! I'm curious to know how long this story has been going on. Who knows if Mattia knows that Sara has a crush on him! If the crush is paid, I'll see them hand in hand every day! I'll have to get used to seeing them hand in hand every day. But all this will only happen if Sara manages to confess that she has a crush on him. Who knows if she'll be able to tell him! We understand that Sara has a crush on Mattia and Mattia doesn't know! So you see this paragraph is a bit heavy, because there are so many repetitions. The same information is repeated too many times. Now we are going to replace the repetitions with 'CI', with 'NE' or with 'LO' according to the verb that introduces that part of the sentence. "Sara confessed to me that she has a crush on Mattia", this is the first time we hear this information and it is very important, this sentence is fundamental. "He waited a long time before telling me he has a crush on Mattia", this is a repetition that can be replaced. "I didn't expect him to have a crush on Mattia", this is another repetition. "I had no idea about this situation", this is also a repetition that we can replace. "I hope that tomorrow he will tell me about the fact that he has a crush on Mattia", this is also a repetition that can be replaced. "Who knows if Mattia knows that Sara has a crush on him", repeat. "If the crush is paid, I'll see them hand in hand every day. I'll have to get used to seeing them hand in hand every day", this is a repetition. "But all this will only happen if Sara manages to confess to him that she has a crush on us", repeat. "Who knows if he will be able to tell him", this is also a repetition that we can replace. The first verb is 'to say', in this case 'to say' introduces an objective subordinate, so there is no preposition. So here we can put 'LO', which is a (direct) object pronoun. "He waited a long time before telling me", 'LO' replaces "who has a crush on Mattia". The second repetition is introduced by the verb "I expected", "to expect something", there is no preposition, but there is a 'that', therefore an objective subordinate is introduced. "I did not expect", what? That he had a crush on Mattia. So: "I didn't expect it". Then, the third repetition is "of this situation", this is a sentence that we can also memorize: "have no idea of something", there is the preposition 'of', do you remember? So we use 'NE', "not ne I had no idea. " Fourth repetition: "I hope that tomorrow he will talk to me about the fact that he has a crush on Mattia". "Talk about something". There is the preposition 'of', so we replace the whole sentence with 'NE'. "I hope he will talk to me about it in more detail tomorrow." Then, fifth repetition: "Who knows if Mattia knows that Sara has a crush on him". "Knowing something", "who knows if Mattia knows", knows what? That Sara has a crush on him. The sixth repetition is: "I'll have to get used to seeing them hand in hand every day." "Get used to something or to do something". Here is the preposition 'a' which indicates that we must use 'CI' to replace all that part of a sentence. So: "I'll have to get used to it". We can also say "I'll have to get used to it", because in this sentence the main verb we conjugate is the modal or servile verb "duty", so we can put all pronouns at the end - then integrate them into the verb that remains in the infinitive - or put them first. Seventh repetition: "But all this will only happen if Sara is able to confess that she has a crush on him." So "all this will only happen if Sara is able to confess it to him". "To confess" or "to confess something", in both cases we have an object of the verb, hence 'LO'. Eighth and final repetition: "Who knows if he'll be able to tell him". Here we find the preposition 'a', so we can replace with the particle 'CI': "Who knows if he will succeed". So what did we understand? That if we have the preposition 'di' after the verb, we can most likely use 'NE' to replace all the sentence that comes after; if there is the preposition 'a' we can replace everything with 'CI'; if instead there is no preposition or there is the conjunction 'che', then we can replace all the following sentence with the object pronoun (direct) 'LO'. We have gone from a text full of repetitions to a very natural paragraph, which is the following. Let's read it: Sara confessed to me that she has a crush on Mattia. He waited a long time before telling me. I didn't expect it, I had no idea! I hope that tomorrow he will talk to me in more detail! I'm curious to know how long this story has been going on. Who knows if Mattia knows! If the crush is paid, I'll see them hand in hand every day! I'll have to get used to it / I'll have to get used to it. But all this will only happen if Sara manages to confess it to him. Who knows if he will succeed! There is a huge difference between the first text and the latter that we have just read. I hope this video is useful to you and I also hope that the exercise was clear. Obviously, as you have seen, this activity is a bit advanced in level, but I still hope that I have done something that most of you enjoy with this exercise. I thank you for watching this video and see you in the next one. See you soon, bye!
